NEW DELHI, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Indian Textiles Minister Kavuru Sambasiva Rao Thursday resigned over the differences over the formation of the new state of Telangana.
"I cannot continue to be a member of the council of ministers against my conscience knowing that the government has caused irreparable damage to the state of Andhra Pradesh," Rao wrote in his resignation letter to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The 63-year-old senior Congress leader, a member of parliament from Eluru constituency of Andhra Pradesh, was upset over the division of his state.
Indian Parliament in February this year gave its approval for the formation of the country's 29th state, followed by the final nod from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee a month later.
Telangana, to be formally created in June, would comprise of 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh and state capital Hyderabad is to be shared by both the states for the next 10 years.
