BUCHAREST, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Romania's Defense Ministry announced Sunday that one soldier was killed and five others injured in Afghanistan early on day, in a suicide attack by an explosive-carrying vehicle.
According to a release of the ministry, the suicide explosive-carrying vehicle crashed head-on into the battle vehicle in which Claudiu Constantin Vulpoiu and his five fellows were riding.
The Romanian troops with the Manoeuvre Battalion dispatched to Zabul province were on a patrolling mission, on three mine-resistant vehicles, on A1 motorway linking Kabul to Kandahar.
He had participated in six other foreign missions in Afghanistan and Claudiu Constantin Vulpoiu, 41, had participated in six other foreign missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to the ministry.
Romania began to send troops to Afghanistan in July 2002. The action was the country's first military mission abroad after World War II. Some 1,000 Romanian troops are currently stationed in Afghanistan.
