KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Two of three suicide bombers were killed when they attacked a base of Afghan intelligence agency in former Taliban stronghold of southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, provincial police spokesman Zia Durani said.
"Three suicide bombers attacked a base of National Directorate of Security (NDS) at 10:00 a.m. local time in the provincial capital of Kandahar city. The security forces have killed two of them and gunfight is going on," Durani told Xinhua.
Eyewitnesses said that four suicide bombers attempting to overrun a checkpoint next to the base failed to enter the compound.
Several shops and houses nearby were damaged due to blast and gunshots, according to the eyewitnesses.
