OSLO, March 7 (Xinhua) -- A rescue operation was under way on Friday evening to locate four Chinese, who lost their way in the mountains in southwest Norway earlier in the day.

The four Chinese tourists, including three adults and a child, were on a trip to the famous Preikestolen in the southwestern county of Rogaland.

The hotel in Stavanger, where the four were staying, reported it to the police at 8 p.m. local time (1900 GMT) after receiving a call from one of them.

It was dark, windy and cold outside in the mountain area. Police told the four Chinese to keep calm and warm.

"We do not perceive the situation as critical. They have good clothes," said Victor Jensen, a police officer in charge of rescue operation in the Rogaland Police District.

The Norwegian People's Aid and volunteers from the local community were mobilized to locate the four people.

Police said that there was hope that the four persons will be found at 10 p.m. on Friday.

Last December a Chinese student, who studied in England, was rescued after he lost his way to the Preikestolen, one of the most famous tourist attractions in southwest Norway.
