ZAGREB, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and visiting French Senate President Jean-Pierre Bel discussed the bilateral relations in Zagreb on Friday.

They discussed the economic situation in the European Union and expressed the two countries would enhance the friendly relations, especially in economic cooperation, a statement from Croatian presidential office said.

They also talked about the upcoming European Parliament election, agreeing the European idea must continue to develop and strengthen to the benefit of all EU citizens.

On Thursday, Bel said when he met Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko that France supported Croatia to help the countries in the region in their EU integration, local media reported.

He said Croatia's path did not end with EU accession and that now it should help the countries in the region on their paths.
