BEIRUT, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Iran's parliament committee on foreign policy and national security Alaeddin Boroujerdi said here Friday that the best possible way to solve the Syrian crisis is through political efforts.
Boroujerdi, who is on a visit to Lebanon, made the remarks after meeting with Lebanese speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.
"After three years of crisis in Syria, I hope we will see a change in the policies of the U.S. allies in the region," he said, in reference to Saudi Arabia.
"It is up to the United Nations and the International community to pave the way for the feuding Syrian parties to engage in a political dialogue that would eventually lead to a fair and transparent presidential elections this year," he added.
In addition, Boroujerdi condemned the Israeli strike on a border position of Lebanon's military party Hezbollah on Monday, saying it aimed to "boost the extremist militants morale."
He expressed confidence in the Lebanese army's ability in putting an end to the "terrorist" activities in the country.
Boroujerdi arrived in Lebanon Thursday from Syria and met with President Michel Suleiman later that day.
