BRUSSELS, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Former Prime Minister of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Juncker has submitted his bid to become the European People's Party (EPP)'s candidate for President of the European Commission, the EPP announced Thursday.
The EPP said it received on Thursday the candidature of Juncker, who was Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 1995 to December 2013 and was President of the Eurogroup from the creation of the position in 2005 until 2013.
Juncker has won the support of his home party CSV, or the Christian Social People's party, and the endorsement of EPP member parties CDU and Nea Demokratia, from Germany and Greece respectively, the EPP said in a statement.
This is the second candidature received by the EPP, after that of former Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, following the opening of the selection process on Feb. 13.
The EPP is the largest and most influential European-level political party of the center-right.
