BANGKOK, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Thai caretaker government on Thursday advised people to keep away from anti-government protest sites for their own safety.
"We wish to suggest that people stay away from the protest sites and remain at home," Tarit Pengdith, member of the government-run Center for Maintaining Peace and Order, was quoted by the Nation newspaper as saying.
The suggestion was made following a string of shooting and bomb explosions at protest sites over the past days, which resulted in the deaths of four children and other people, as well as injuries of dozens.
"We believe that under the present circumstances, it is difficult to bring the attackers to justice and make them pay for the damage they cause," Tarit said.
Reportedly, another 117 military security and surveillance checkpoints will be set up around every rally site, locations prone to violence and crowded areas in the capital Bangkok, to reinforce the existing 29 checkpoints.
