SYDNEY, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- A 14-year-old girl has been too traumatized to speak to police after being sexually assaulted by a group of men at Doonside, west Sydney in Australia, local media reported on Monday.
Police said the girl was walking home through Bill Colbourne Reserve, Doonside, about 11:00 p.m. (local time) on Saturday when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her.
The girl was then assaulted by the man's five friends.
The group fled, leaving the girl to walk to a nearby home where police were alerted.
The men are all described as being of African appearance and aged in their late teens to early 20s, according to local media reports.
Police are investigating the attack.
Superintendent Gary Merryweather, Blacktown local area commander, said the family of the victim is devastated.
"Being of such a tender age, she is traumatized to an extent that I can't really describe," Merryweather told reporters on Monday.
"Part of the delay of us getting the information out to the public is because the young girl was in shock."
