VLADIVOSTOK, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- An armed man broke into a local cathedral on Russia's Far East island of Sakhalin, gunning down two people and wounding six others before he was arrested, RIA Novosti reported on Sunday.
The man, with a shotgun in hand, burst into the cathedral on Sunday afternoon in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, killing one catholic and a clergy on the spot and wounding six others.
Most of the wounded were hit in the legs and their lives were not in danger.
The gunman was a security guard working at a local security company and he was arrested at the Russian Orthodox cathedral after the shooting.
The authorities were investigating the motives of the shooting.
