DAMASCUS, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al- Moallem, the head of the Syrian official delegation to the Geneva II conference, met on Thursday with the UN envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi over arrangements for the actual talks between the government and the opposition due to Friday, SANA news agency reported.
During the meeting, Walid al-Moallem and Brahimi discussed about the procedure to launch dialogue with the oppositional Syrian National Coalition (SNC) delegation at the UN headquarters in Geneva on Friday, said SANA.
Meanwhile, local TV said the talks on Friday will start with a speech from Brahimi to the two delegations in one room, then each delegation will sit in separate rooms and Brahimi will convey messages between both of them.
The Geneva II conference on Syria opened on Wednesday in Montreux, Switzerland. While the opening speeches showed that there were deep conflicts between the two sides.
The Syrian official delegation demanded that the Geneva II focus on combating terrorism, while the oppositional SNC wanted a transitional government without any role for President Bashar al- Assad.
