NEW YORK, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Five flight attendants were injured Thursday when a Beijing-bound plane was forced to return to Newark Liberty International Airport because of turbulent weather, local media reported.
The United Airlines plane operating Flight 89 left the airport around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, but the plane had to return about an hour later because of bad weather, said the local media report.
"The aircraft landed safely in Newark with 189 passengers and 16 crew members on board. Five crew members sustained injuries. Our team in Newark is reviewing the event," United Airlines said in a statement.
No further details are available for the moment.
Located partly in Newark and partly in Elizabeth, two cities in the state of New Jersey, Newark Liberty International Airport is about 24 kilometers southwest of Midtown Manhattan, which is the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area's busiest by flights.
