Iran indispensable in solving regional issues: commander

English.news.cn   2014-01-12 04:57:46

TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The United States is well aware that it cannot settle the regional problems without considering Iran's influence, Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami said on Saturday.

"At present, no country in the region stretches a red carpet for the United States anymore and Egypt, Lebanon and Syria are no more the United States and the Zionists' backyard," Salami was quoted as saying by semi-official Fars news agency.

"They (the U.S. officials) are well aware that at present settling the regional and global crisis is impossible without Iran 's partnership," he said.

Iran's influential role in the international and regional issues is further being revealed these days, specially in the crisis in Syria, he added.

In relevant remarks, Commander of Iran's Basij (volunteer) Forces Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Naqdi said Iran's absence from the upcoming Geneva II conference on Syria will render the gathering futile.

"Any decision to be taken without the Islamic Republic of Iran' s presence will be futile and fruitless," Naqdi was quoted as saying by Fars.

Under United States' pressure, Iran has not been invited to attend the upcoming peace talks on Syria in Geneva.
