DAMASCUS, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed and many others wounded Thursday evening when mortar shells landed near a mosque in Syria's central province of Homs, the state-run SANA news agency reported.
The mortars struck the Hamara district near Omar Bin al-Khatab mosque, said SANA, just hours after 12 people were killed and 75 others wounded in another mortar attack in Homs.
The attack is the latest in a series of mortar attacks and explosions staged by radical rebels in several Syrian cities. Earlier in the day, 16 people were killed and tens of others wounded when an explosion rocked Syria's central province of Hama.
The blast targeted the town of Kafat in Hama, said SANA, adding that women and children were among those killed.
