BRATISLAVA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Slovakia has agreed to provide 100,000 euros (136,000 U.S. dollars) for the elimination of Syria's chemical weapons, Slovak media reported Wednesday.

The contribution would add to a special fund set up by the the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), of which Slovakia is a founding member, according to TASR news agency.

The report came a day after OPCW-UN Special Coordinator Sigrid Kaag announced that a first shipment of chemical materials had been moved from Syria to foreign locations for their eventual destruction.

According to decisions of the UN Security Council and the OPCW Executive Council, Syria's chemical weapons will be transported outside its territory for destruction in the safest and soonest manner and no later than June 30, 2014.
