GAZA/JERUSALEM, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- An 18-year-old Palestinian on Friday died of wound he sustained in clashes with Israeli soldiers on Thursday near the northern Gaza border, local medics said.
The Palestinian, named Adnan Abu Khater, was shot and critically wounded on Thursday by Israeli troops' gunfire, medics in Gaza city's Shifa Hospital told reporters.
Meanwhile, Israeli daily Ha'aretz quoted an Israeli army spokeswoman as saying that a group of Palestinians approached the security fence in northern Gaza on Thursday and began hurling rocks at the soldiers and vandalizing the fence.
"The rioters ignored repeated requests to stop vandalizing the fence. Soldiers at the scene then fired at their lower extremities, " the spokeswoman said.
Earlier Friday, Israeli F16 war jets carried out a series of airstrikes on training posts belonging to militants in Gaza, security sources of Hamas said, adding that no injuries or damage were caused.
The Israeli air raids were in response to Gaza's rocket attack on southern Israel Thursday night, according to Israeli Radio.
