THE HAGUE, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Dutch police has arrested 65 rioting teenagers in the village of Veen after they burned a car and threw bottles and heavy fireworks at police cars and fire fighters early Tuesday morning, Dutch media reported.
The emergency services arrived at the village that is situated in the southern province Brabant after receiving reports that a car was on fire.
It is not the first time teenagers set fire on cars during the New Year's Eve period. The Dutch police had taken preventive measures to escort the firefighters this time.
Upon their arrival, the youngsters began to throw bottles and heavy fireworks at the police vehicles, police said.
Eight teenagers were arrested after they refused to leave the street. Others ran into a village cafe, but were arrested shortly after and taken to detention cells.
In 2012, a total of 1,098 people were arrested for setting fires, fighting, vandalism and other offences during the New Year's Eve period, which was a low number compared to previous years.
