DAMASCUS, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Syria's Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi stressed Saturday that his government will take part in the Geneva II peace conference on Syria "to build the renewed Syria according to the interests of Syria only."
"Syria is going to Geneva II conference with the support of the sweeping majority of the Syrian people and the sacrifices and steadfastness of the Syrian army to build the renewed Syria according to the interests of Syria only," Information Minister al- Zoubi said during a two-day forum discussing means of developing Islamic media outlets and coordination among them in light of the ongoing events in Syria.
"We are going to join Geneva II because we are working according to the mentality of the victorious to save every drop of blood from being spilled and every stone from being crushed," the minister said.
Meanwhile, al-Zoubi stressed that the Syrians will not accept any solution that does not suit their aspirations and sacrifices or that undermines the national sovereignty of their country.
Syrians' hopes are now pinned on the upcoming Geneva II conference in a bid to start the political process and give a chance for recovering of the sinking economy. The conference, slated on January 22, is aimed at engaging warring Syrian parties to negotiate an end to the prolonged crisis.
