6.1-magnitude earthquake hits southern Turkey

ANKARA, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- A 6.1-magnitude earthquake shook tourist attraction Antalya province in southern Turkey on Saturday, private NTV news channel reported.

The earthquake struck the Mediterranean Sea at 17:21 local time (1421 GMT) and its epicenter was off the coast of Antalya, according to the report.

No casualties were reported so far.

In October 2011, a 7.2-magnitude quake flattened some 2,000 buildings, killing 644 people and leaving thousands homeless in Turkey's eastern province of Van.
