JERUSALEM, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli soldier died from the fire shot by a Lebanese soldier towards northern Israel, the military had confirmed late on Sunday.
A military investigation is underway. According to a military source, a Lebanese soldier fired across the Lebanese-Israeli border at an Israeli vehicle Sunday evening. It is speculated that the Lebanese soldier acted on his own behalf.
The shots were fired at 20:30 local time (GMT1830) at a vehicle traveling along the border near Rosh Hanikra. The IDF also said they are investigating the incident and confirmed that the sniper was a soldier in the Lebanese military.
The IDF boosted its alert level across the border following the shooting.
Lebanon in high alert at border with Israel
BEIRUT, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Following the assassination of a high ranking Hezbollah official Wednesday in Beirut and accusing Israel of being behind the crime, a high tense situation was witnessed on both sides of the Israeli-Lebanese border.
A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that a high alert was witnessed on both sides of the border in a preemptive move for any possible security deterioration. Full story
