MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- A powerful blast hit eastern Afghan town of Mehterlam, the capital of Laghman province 90 km east of Kabul on Saturday, wounding 19 people, with some in critical condition, spokesman for provincial administration said.
"It was around 03:00 p.m. local time when a blast rocked Mehtarlam town, injuring 19 civilians including a women," Sarhadi Zawak told Xinhua.
"Apparently the bomb was planted on a vehicle of traffic police, and exploded in Asmat Square of Mehterlam town, injuring civilians, " he added.
The vehicle of the traffic police, which was on routine duty when the blast happened, was badly damaged.
He blamed the attack on the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban outfit. But the armed group is yet to make comment.
Roadside bomb kills 3 police, wounds 2 in S. Afghanistan
GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb struck a police van in the southern Ghazni province on Saturday, killing three police and wounding two others, a local police official said.
"A mine planted by the militants struck a police vehicle in Shahbaz area in the outskirts of provincial capital the Ghazni city at around 11:00 a.m. local time, leaving three personnel of Public Order Police martyred and injured two others," Assadullah Insafi told Xinhua. Full story
Blast goes off in Afghan capital, causing panic among residents
KABUL, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- An explosion went off in Afghanistan' s capital of Kabul late Wednesday night, causing panic among the residents, witnesses and officials said early Thursday morning.
"I heard a big bang in western Kabul at around 11:30 p.m. ( local time) Wednesday. First I thought it was an earthquake but following the blast several police vehicle alarm was heard in the area," said a resident Mohammad Mustafa. Full story
