GAZA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Israel decided to transfer water pumps to Gaza to fight heavy flooding, Israeli coordinator of government activities in the Palestinian territories Gen. Eitan Dangot was quoted as saying on Friday.
Israel News website reported that the pumps will soon be transferred to the Palestinian coastal enclave, ruled by Hamas movement, through the commercial crossing of Kerem Shalom between Israel and southern Gaza.
There is no direct coordination between Gaza and Israel, however, Israel decided to transfer the water pumps upon the request of the United Nations, said the report.
While briefing Palestinian and international community officials in regards of the harsh weather in the region, Gen. Dangot stressed that Israel will do everything it can do to help the people in Gaza.
The heavy rainfalls and floods covered dozens of houses, mainly in refugee camps and poor neighborhoods in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas authorities had asked emergency help of the international community.
The enclave has been under more than six years of blockade, which was imposed right after Hamas's violent takeover of the Gaza Strip in June 2007, and Israel has been easing the blockade since 2010.
