KIEV, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Kiev subway resumed normal functioning as bomb alert that had briefly suspended its work turned out to be fake, local authorities said Monday.
The Kiev metro was evacuated around midday local time after police received a call from an unknown man, claiming there were bombs in stations near the main site of the pro-European protests.
Some local opposition media claimed that the metro stations were shut down because the riot police are based there, preparing to storm the protest in central Kiev, which entered 19th day after erupting on Nov. 21.
Special internal forces, who were inspecting the three stations allegedly mined, found nothing suspicious at the site, the press service of Kiev police said.
Ukrainian police has opened a criminal case into the incident.
