KABUL, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police backed by the national army have killed more than three dozen Taliban militants during series of operations across the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement released here on Wednesday.
"Units of national police backed by the army and the NATO-led coalition forces have killed 37 Taliban rebels throughout the country over the past 24 hours," the statement said.
According to the statement, during the operations which had been carried out in Helmand, Nuristan, Wardak, Laghman, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Ghazni, Herat and Nimroz provinces, in addition to killing 37 militants, 17 more Taliban fighters sustained injuries and 13 others were arrested.
It did not say if there were any casualties on the security personnel during the operations.
Meantime, Taliban outfit in a counter-claim has rejected the report and in a statement sent to media outlets, the armed outfit claimed that dozens of Afghan and foreign security personnel had been killed over the past 24 hours in the country.

TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Four militants were killed Saturday in an operation launched by the Afghan police in the country's southern province of Uruzgan, a source said.
"Afghan National Police (ANP) carried out a cleanup operation in Karlagho area of Khas Uruzgan district earlier on Saturday. Four militants had been killed and a handful of weapons were seized by the ANP there," the provincial police spokesman Farid Ayal told Xinhua. Full story
