DAVAO CITY, Philippines, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two people are missing and over a dozen houses were destroyed by flooding spawned by a tropical depression over southern Philippines on Tuesday, local authorities on Wednesday said.

Two males were carried away by rampaging waters as they tried to cross flooded areas in Dujali and Kapalong towns in Davao del Norte Province late on Tuesday, said Sonio Sanchez, provincial disaster action officer.

In the town of Compostela Valley, Compostela Valley Province, 19 houses and two chapels were destroyed in a flash flood, said Camilo Cascolan, Compostela Valley provincial police chief. A landslide was also reported to have struck at a gold-rich mountain community in Monkayo Town in the province, he added.

According to the police, a total of 2, 617 families or over 13, 000 individuals were evacuated in three provinces of the region alone, as the tropical depression brought moderate to heavy rains in these areas, causing massive flooding and landslide.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has downgraded the weather disturbance into a low pressure area, now spotted over Palawan province in western Philippines.
