Obama arrives in New Orleans to talk exports

HOUSTON, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama arrived Friday morning in the U.S. city of New Orleans, a major port and the largest city in Louisiana state, to give a speech on boosting exports to improve the economy.

Obama is expected to take a tour of the port of New Orleans, accompanied by state officials including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and will deliver a speech on promoting economic growth in the area, local reports said.

His speech will focus on growing the state and national economy by increasing exports from the country's ports. Louisiana has five of the country's top 15 ports. Meanwhile, Obama is also likely to talk about the Affordable Care Act and the problem-plagued healthcare.gov website.

Analysts said while New Orleans is a long-time Democratic holdout in a red state, the trip could help the president's approval in other parts of Louisiana. The latest Gallup Poll shows Obama's approval rating is around 40 percent. But analysts believe his rating in Louisiana is even lower.

Obama is scheduled to travel to Miami later Friday for three fundraising events.
