TOKYO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit off Fukushima prefecture in northeast part of Japan at around 2:11 a.m. local time Saturday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
It also issued a tsunami advisory along the coast of Fukushima prefecture, saying a tsunami of up to one meter is expected to arrive at about 2:40 a.m.
The quake was registered at 4 on Japan's seismic scale of 7 in some parts in the Tohoku area and strong tremor was felt in Tokyo.
No damage and injuries have been reported as of now.
The epicenter, with a depth of 10 kilometers, was initially detected at 37.2 degrees north latitude and 144.6 degrees east longitude, the agency said.
