JERUSALEM/RAMALLAH, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- An Islamic Jihad (Holy War) militant was shot dead in a fire exchange with Israeli soldiers early Tuesday, a military spokesperson confirmed to Xinhua.
Israeli army forces arrived in a village called Niama west of Ramallah in the West Bank early Tuesday morning to arrest Palestinians wanted for suspected militant activity against Israel.
Mohamad al-Aassi, 28, a member of the Islamic Jihad group, was shot dead in a nearby cave.
According to the Walla! news website, he is one of the planners of a bomb attack on a bus in Tel Aviv which took place in November 2012, during the Israeli military's campaign Pillar of Defense in the Gaza Strip.
The residents said that three Palestinians were arrested after al-Aassi was killed.
A month ago a Palestinian man called Islam Tubasi from the Islamic Jihad militant movement was shot to death by the Israeli army while trying to escape arrest.
Following the killing of the Islamic Jihad militant, clashes broke out between the residents and the Israeli soldiers, where the soldiers dispersed the angry protesters by tear gas canisters after the residents threw stones at them.
