LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- A small plane crashed near Saipan Island, killing two Chinese tourists and the pilot and injuring the other four Chinese aboard, the Consulate-General of China in Los Angeles said Sunday.
The four other Chinese have been sent to local hospitals in Saipan for treatment and were not in very serious conditions, an official with the Consulate-General told Xinhua.
The seven-seat small plane crashed at about 2:00 a.m. Sunday local time (1600 GMT Saturday) when it was en route from Tinian to Saipan, two biggest islands of the Northern Mariana Islands, the official said. Tourists usually travel by small planes between the two islands.
The crashed plane was found by coast guard several hours later, the official said, adding that the six passengers were from China' s Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
The cause of the plane crash is unknown till now.
The Consulate-General will soon send a working group to Saipan, capital of the Northern Mariana Islands, an unincorporated territory of the United States in the western Pacific Ocean. It is some 5,000 km west to Hawaii.
