UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday that the United States and Russia have reached an agreement on a UN Security Council resolution about Syrian chemical weapons.
"I was pleased to have a meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and we did reach an agreement with respect to the resolution," Kerry told reporters.
"We are now doing the final work on pulling that language together," he added.
Samantha Power, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, also said on Twitter that the two sides have reached a deal on the resolution "legally obligating" Syria to give up its chemical stockpile.
The measure, she added, would go to the full Security Council on Thursday night.
Russia and the United States have been at odds over the Syrian chemical weapons resolution. Kerry and Lavrov met this week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The Security Council is scheduled to hold a closed-door meeting Thursday night on Syria.

UN Security Council close to work out Syria resolution as investigators back to Damascus
BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The five veto-wielding members of the UN Security Council is expected to hammer out a resolution on the Syrian chemical weapon crisis in the next two days, as the investigation team backed to Syria for other alleged uses of chemical weapons in the war-torn country.
Gennady Gatilov, deputy foreign minister of Russia, one of the five permanent members of the council which has been long paralyzed by divisions on Syria, said Wednesday that the coming resolution will mention Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, which allows steps ranging from sanctions to military intervention.
