DAMASCUS, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- A booby-trapped car ripped through a Syrian border point with neighboring Turkey on Tuesday, leaving an unknown number of casualties, Lebanese al-Manar TV said.
The TV reported no further details about the blast that rocked Bab al-Hawa crossing, while opposition activists said it was " powerful."
Syria's state media has not reported the blast yet.
Bab al-Hawa is a key border crossing between Syria and Turkey. Syrian opposition activists claim it has been largely under the rebels' control since September 2012.
Syria confirms helicopter shot down by Turkey
DAMASCUS, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian army confirmed Monday that Turkey shot down its military helicopter which "mistakenly" and "briefly" entered Turkey's airspace.
The statement, carried by Syria's state-run TV, said that "a military helicopter was lost Monday afternoon while conducting one of its reconnaissance sorties to monitor the infiltration attempts of terrorists across the Turkish borders at the Yunusieh area near the countryside of Latakia city." Turkish warplanes shoot down Syrian helicopter at border
ANKARA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Turkish warplanes shot down a Syrian helicopter on Monday at the border region between the two countries after the helicopter allegedly violated Turkish airspace, said Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc.
"Today an MI-17 helicopter belonging to Syria violated the Turkish border in the Guvecci area of Yayladagi in Hatay province by two km," Arinc told reporters in Ankara. Full story
