Rockets fired from Syrian side injure 2 in Lebanese border area

BEIRUT, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Two people were injured on Saturday when rockets fired from the Syrian side of the border with Lebanon landed on Bekaa regions, state-run National News Agency reported.

Three rockets fired from the Syrian territory landed at Al Labwe village in east Bekaa, with one causing a fire in a field in Jaboula area adjacent to Al Labwe.

The Syrian rebels have occasionally launched rocket attacks on the east Bekaa town of Hermel facing the Syrian town of al-Qussair since April, killing three and injuring 12, in retaliation for the alleged participation of Hezbollah in the fight of al-Qussair alongside the Syrian government troops.

On June 20, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman sent a memorandum to UN chief Ban Ki-moon and head of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi about "the continued Syrian violations of Lebanon," calling on Damascus and the rebels to "respect Lebanon's sovereignty and isolating the Lebanese territory from any military actions."
