NEW DELHI, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- An Indian court is due to deliver on Tuesday the verdict to four rape suspects accused of the Dec. 16, 2012 gang rape in the Indian capital, which triggered unprecedented protests nationwide.
The court will decide what punishment will be given to the four accused -- Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur, after a juvenile board sentenced a minor to three years in correctional home, while the sixth and main suspect of the case, Ram Singh, has hanged himself in jail.
The gang rape saw six men raping, battering and killing a 23- year-old medical student on a moving bus in south Delhi in a cold mid-December night.
The four accused were charged with gang rape, murder, attempt to murder, unnatural offenses and destruction of evidence and dacoity among other offences. They face the maximum punishment of death if found guilty.
