JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Afghan Taliban insurgent group early Monday morning launched a complex attack on a U.S. forces' base in eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, sources said.
"Militants numbered six or seven use suicide jackets, RPG ( rocket propelled grenade) and heavily weapons in the attack which took place in bordering town of Torkhan in border area with Pakistan," the source said.
No casualty reports were immediately available, he said, adding the attack took place at around 5:30 a.m. local time.
The base is a complex where foreign forces' vehicles and logistic and supply trucks station there.
The clash was going on at the moment in the province with Jalalabad city as its capital 120 km east of Afghan capital Kabul, he noted.
Following the attack, the Jalalabad-Torkham highway, a key roadway for local and foreign troops' logistic and supply convoys, had been blocked.
KABUL, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Forty-five Taliban rebels surrendered in Afghanistan, sources said Sunday.
"Up to 40 armed opponents joined the national reconciliation process and laid down their arms in western Herat province," said the Afghan National Security Directorate, the country's intelligence agency, in a statement. Full story
