GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Clash between militants and Afghan security forces left 18 Taliban fighters and two police dead in Zana Khan district of Ghazni province on Tuesday, a local official said.
"Scores of armed Taliban rebels stormed the headquarters of Zana Khan district in the wee hours of Tuesday with the objective to capture it. However, the police resisted with the support of army, killing 18 rebels and forcing the Taliban to flee," Zana Khan district governor Ahmad Zia Yaqubi told Xinhua.
In the conflict which lasted until 7:00 a.m. local time, two police were killed and two others sustained injuries, he said.
Taliban militants who are active in parts of Ghazni province 125 km south of Kabul have yet to make comment.
