BAGHDAD, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Up to 13 people were killed and 26 others wounded on Tuesday in separate bomb attacks in Iraq, while insurgents blew up an oil pipeline, halting oil exports, police and officials said.
A car bomb went off near a Shiite mosque during noon prayer in the town of Madain, some 30 km southeast of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, killing five worshippers and wounding 14, a police officer told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
In Iraq's western province of Anbar, a policeman was killed and two were wounded when another car bomb struck a police convoy in Albu Jabir area, just north of the provincial capital city of Ramadi, some 110 km west of Baghdad, a provincial police source anonymously told Xinhua.
Earlier in the day, the police said that seven people were killed and 10 others wounded in separate bomb attacks targeting Iraqi security forces in northern central Iraq.
Meanwhile, militants bombed a major oil pipeline in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh, halting the country's oil exports to the port of Ceyhan, southeastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, according to an official from state-run North Oil Company (NOC).
Teams from NOC are working to repair the damage, which is expected to take one to three days, the official said.
Tuesday's assaults came a day after bomb attacks in the north and east of Baghdad, two of them targeting a cafe and a vegetable market, which killed 30 people and wounded 104 others.
Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years, which raises fears that the country is sliding back to the full-blown civil conflict that peaked in 2006 and 2007, when monthly death toll sometimes exceeded 3,000.
The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq recently reported that over 1,000 Iraqis were killed and more than 2,300 wounded in acts of terrorism and violence in July, the deadliest month in more than five years.
