PARIS, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and one critically wounded on Saturday afternoon in a car accident near Carcassonne, southern France, local media reported.
The accident occurred around 5 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) when the car negotiated a turn on D613 between Carcassonne and Trebes and was embedded in a concrete pillar, media reports said.
The only survivor was ejected from the Peugeot 406. He was in critical condition and immediately transported to the hospital, according to the French channel BFMTV.
Victims were identified in initial findings as residents of Trebes, and over-speed driving could be the cause of the tragedy, BFMTV said, citing the police as the source.
