CANBERRA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Australian Special Minister of State Mark Dreyfus on Saturday urged voters who are yet to enrol to act now to avoid missing out on having their say in the Sept. 7 election.
About 1.3 million Australians have yet to enrol to vote, with only three days remaining before the roll closes.
Dreyfus said it had never been easier to enrol to vote because the enrolment can be done online, the first election it has been possible to do so in Australia. "More than half a million applications have been made online since this method became available on June 6," he said."It takes only a few minutes and can be done on your smartphone, tablet or PC, any time, day or night."
A total of 506,000 applications have been made online, including 126,000 new enrolments and 380,000 updates.
There are now about 14.6 million Australians enroled to vote.
Young people, aged 18 to 25, make up about a third of the 1.3 million missing voters, with one in two 18-year-olds yet to enrol.
The roll closes at 8pm on Aug. 12, 2013.
