DAMASCUS, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Syria's Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi denied as absolutely baseless reports about the rebels' targeting of the convoy of President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Thursday.
Al-Zoubi said that the report circulated on the Saudi-funded al- Arabiya TV is false, adding that it represents their dreams only.
The president arrived at the Mosque on Thursday to perform the special prayers and congratulated the people on the occasion of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday.
Al-Zoubi said that the Syrian people have become so aware that they would never believe such news.
Meanwhile, the state-TV aired footage showing Assad in the mosque performing the prayers and flanked by the minister of Endowment and the grand Mufti of Syria.
The embattled president has performed special prayers at mosques over the past two years to project confidence and power as his country is sliding toward the quagmire of an all-out civil war.
