TOKYO, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese government said Thursday that the country and the United States will meet in Tokyo on the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks next week.

In a three-day meeting starting Wednesday, Japan will discuss safety standards and other matters related to cars, the insurance sector and intellectual property issues with the United States, the initiator of the free trade talks, according to Japan's Kyodo News.

Acting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Wendy Cutler will head the U.S. delegation and Takeo Mori, ambassador for economic diplomacy, will be the chief of the Japanese side, reported Kyodo.

Japan and the United States said they finished preparatory talks for Japan's participation in the framework in April and decided to start bilateral and parallel negotiations on the auto and other key sectors.

On July 23, Japan became the 12th member of the TPP talks in the 18th round of the TPP talks held in Malaysia.
