BELGRADE, July 8 (Xinhua) -- A group of men opened fire on Serbian Gendarmerie patrol, Sunday evening, near Borovac village close to the administrative border line with Kosovo, said Bratislav Dikic, the Serbian Gendarmerie Commander.
Dikic told Serbian News Agency Tanjug that several attackers are wounded in the clash, but none of the Gendarmerie members is injured. While "according to initial information from Kosovo Police force, six Albanians are wounded in the exchange of fire," Tanjug reported.
He confirmed that on the spot of the incident, a tractor with chain saws is found, and that liaison officers of EULEX (EU mission in Kosovo) and KFOR (NATO lead peace keeping force) are informed about the incident.
"Gendarmerie is implementing all the measures within our jurisdiction, in order to protect the security of the citizens in this region ", Dikic told Tanjug.
This is the third incident of its kind to take place in this region of Serbia, Serbian National Television quoted Caslav Milosevic, a local resident as saying.
"Shooting lasted for some 30 minutes, after that Gendarmerie blocked the whole area, because Albanians have crossed the administrative line with Kosovo and have been steeling wood from our forest,"Milosevic said.
Kosovo Television RTK reported that five Albanians were wounded in the shooting "inside Kosovo in village Mitrovac, near the town of Podujevo."
