BANGKOK, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A ranger was killed and another injured on Monday by a bomb explosion in Thailand's restive far South, police said.
The incident occurred in Yarang district of Pattani province about 10:30 a.m. local time.
A team of rangers was on patrol along a road when a 4-kg-bomb, buried under the road, was detonated. Two rangers were injured by the explosion and then rushed to a nearby hospital. One of them was pronounced dead later.
Since early 2004, thousands of people, including military personnels and civilians, have been killed or injured in the frequent attacks instigated by armed insurgents in Thailand's southernmost provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala.
