RAMADI, Iraq, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Three Syrian truck drivers and three Iraqi people were killed in Iraq's western province of Anbar on Sunday, a provincial police source said.

Gunmen in four vehicles ambushed a convoy of three Syrian trucks and four Iraqi trucks heading to the Syrian border on the highway in a desert area near the city of Rutba, some 375 km west of Iraq's capital Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The gunmen shot dead three Syrian drivers after they burned their trucks and abducted four Iraqi drivers, leaving their trucks on the road, the source said.

In a separate incident in Rutba, the body of a policeman was found after he was kidnapped earlier in the day by gunmen while driving his car, said the source.

Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen in a car opened fire on a civilian car in the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, killing a man and wounding his wife, he said, adding that Iraqi security forces rushed to the scene and identified the victim as the cousin of Saadoun al-Shaalan, deputy chairman of Anbar provincial council.

Also in Fallujah, an Iraqi army soldier was shot dead by a sniper gunshot in central the city, the source said.

Insurgent attacks are continuing in the volatile Sunni Arab area in west of Baghdad that stretches through Anbar province to Iraq's western borders with Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
