RIO DE JANEIRO, March 22 (Xinhua) -- President Dilma Rousseff is the most likely winner of the next general election 18 months away, according to latest survey results.
The Ibope poll released Friday by the O Estado de Sao Paulo daily shows that 52 percent of the voters backed Rousseff if elections were being held now, while another 24 percent said they might vote for her.
Only 20 percent said they would not vote for Rousseff no matter what, according to the poll, which was conducted among 2,002 voters from 142 municipalities nationwide with a 2-percent margin of error.
Ten percent said they would certainly vote for former Senator Marina Silva, who finished third in the last election, and 30 percent said they might vote for her.
Half of the respondents said they would not vote for Jose Serra, the runner-up in the last elections, and 35 percent said they would or might vote for Serra, who comes from the main opposition Social Democratic Party (PSDB).
An earlier Ibope poll found a record-high 63 percent approval rate for the president, compared to 39 percent for her predecessor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the same point of his first term. Lula still got reelected.
