LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, March 21 (Xinhua) -- A blast hit Marja district of the southern Helmand province 555 km south of Kabul on Thursday, killing five people and injuring six others, provincial administration spokesman Farid Zirak said.
"An explosive device apparently a suicide vest exploded inside a Medressah or religious school in Shin Ghazak village of Marja district at around 07:00 a.m. local time leaving five seminarists dead and injured six others," Zirak told Xinhua.
He also did not rule out Taliban involvement in the incident, saying the militants often carry out such attacks to terrorize people.
The blast took place when locals were celebrating Nawroz or New Year in Afghan calendar falling on March 21.
