5 Syrian shells land near Lebanese border town

BEIRUT, March 20 (Xinhua) - - Five Syrian shells landed near a Lebanese northeastern border town on Wednesday, two days after Syria's air strikes along the borderline, the state-run National News Agency said.

The report said the shells, causing no casualties, landed on the outskirts of the town of al-Qasr, which is adjacent to Syria's Homs province, the scene of heavy fighting between Syrian rebels and government forces.

On Monday, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman condemned Syria for carrying out "unacceptable" air strikes along the border and instructed the foreign ministry to send a formal protest.

However, the Syrian government said it was not responsible for the attacks, despite the Lebanese military's confirmation of Syrian fighter jets' presence near the border.
