CAIRO, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's prosecution on Tuesday ordered to detain a key figure of Libya's former regime for 30 days over corruption charges, official news agency MENA reported.

On Tuesday, Gaddaf Al-Dam surrendered himself to Egyptian security forces at his residence in Zamalek district in the capital Cairo after hours of scrimmages.

Kamel Samir, head of the International Cooperation Office of the General Prosecution, said the detention of al-Dam was based on the legal and judicial cooperation agreement between Egypt and Libya, which enables one country to detain suspects from the other for renewable 30 days until their extradition.

Al-Dam, who had been a coordinator for Libyan-Egyptian relations under former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, is wanted by the Interpol for his alleged involvement in several cases concerning the former Libyan regime.

Also on Tuesday, Egyptian authorities arrested former Libyan ambassador to Egypt Ali Maria and former Libyan financial official Mohamed Ibrahim Mansour.
