ISTANBUL, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian opposition based in Turkey said here on Monday that the Free Syrian Army (FSA) recognizes the interim government as a legal political umbrella and is willing to work under it.
Salim Idris, the chief of staff of the FSA, said at the press conference that the FSA will obey the order from the interim prime minister and protect the interim government within the "liberated area" of Syria.
"(Forming) this interim government is an important step to support the Syrian people of the 'liberated' area. It is a political umbrella under which our common goal is to accelerate the downfall of Assad's regime," Idris told a group of journalists after Monday's meeting in Istanbul.
Syrian opposition convenes Monday in Istanbul to form an interim government to be a major rival of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's administration.
So far, the 63 members of Syrian National Coalition (SNC)'s general assembly are discussing situations on the ground within Syria.
Speaking to Xinhua, Khaled Salih, the director of media office and a member of the executive board of SNC, said that the close- door discussion led by SNC's President Mouaz al-Khatib was going well.
"By now, all the members of the coalition have reached consensus that the interim government and its prime minister would work under the authority of SNC and should operate within the ' liberated' land of Syria," Salih said.
Commenting on if the formation of the interim government would block the political solution and end up all the dialogue opportunities with Assad, Salih said "there is no any political solution right now. It is Assad who refuses to sit on the table with the oppositions."
