DAMASCUS, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Three mortar shells landed on Monday at a general park, its adjacent resort mountainous area and behind a hospital at al-Mazzeh district of the capital Damascus, the pro-government Sham FM said.
The three mortars slammed the Tishreen Park, the adjacent al- Rabwe area and behind al-Muasat Hospital in the sprawling al- Mazzeh area, the report said, stopping short of giving details about injuries or casualties.
Anti-government media said the rebel Free Syrian Army claimed responsibility for the attacks that "aimed to target one of the capital's presidential palaces."
Witnesses told Xinhua that the piercing thud of mortar shells was heard four times in al-Mazzeh area followed by the wailing sound of ambulances rushing to the area.
Mortar attacks have become increasingly common in Damascus recently.
