GENEVA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Rail traffic through the Alps between Switzerland and Italy was interrupted Wednesday due to a bomb threat, Swiss police said.
Valais cantonal police said the editor of a local media received an anonymous phone call at about 11:15 a.m. which claimed there was a bomb on a train being in the Simplon tunnel for maintenance, Swiss news agency ATS reported.
The tunnel was closed from around 11:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m, and police moved the train out of the tunnel late in the afternoon in order to search for explosives.
Swiss rail company SBB said buses have been arranged to take passengers to the Italian border city of Domodossola.
